Sole Water for Gut Health
Why do so many people benefit from sole water? Both homeopathy and biochemistry offer helpful explanations.
Sodium is one of the first electrolytes we tend to lose, yet it’s rarely discussed — particularly not in a positive light.
For a healthy gut, we need not only prebiotics and probiotics but also sodium.
We can become low in sodium through excessive sweating, prolonged stress, or simply not getting enough in our diet. I am talking about clean diet with natural salts, not the chemically processed ones.
Sodium is crucial for maintaining the correct balance of fluids inside and outside of cells, and it plays a role in absorption of nutrients in the digestive system. It helps the stomach to produce hydrochloric acid, that breaks down protein from food into amino acids. These building blocks are then used to create the body's own proteins. This is why, instead of athletes turning to expensive amino-acid supplements, something as simple as homemade sole water can make a noticeable difference.
And remember: staying hydrated isn’t just about drinking water. Your body also needs minerals like sodium to actually absorb and use that water effectively.
We are mineral-based beings. We need essential minerals to function properly. When the adrenal glands are overstimulated - for example by intense exercise or chronic stress, chronic fight or flight— we tend to sweat more and lose essential minerals. Interestingly, sodium loss is associated with chronic grief.
The abdomen is often seen as a symbol of nourishment. When a baby cries, a mother naturally strokes the child’s belly — the place linked to comfort, feeding, and early bonding. One of our earliest experiences of grief often happens when we leave home for school, separating from the mother who nourished us. It’s no surprise that this transition is, for some children, marked by their first memorable tummy ache.
Sole water is sometimes compared to the homeopathic remedy Natrum Muriaticum (Sodium Chloride), which is traditionally prescribed for chronic grief.
With the lifestyle challenges of the 21st century, unnoticed low sodium levels and incomplete gut health have become major concerns, contributing to a variety of health problems. It’s worth noting that conventional advice often recommends reducing salt intake for these issues. While table salt can be harmful and is best avoided, natural salt is much less processed and contains beneficial trace minerals not found in regular table salt. Natural salt is incredibly nourishing for the body.
Finally, sole water isn’t the same as just adding salt to your food or stirring salt into a glass of water. It is water that has fully absorbed the maximum amount of natural salt — a saturated solution created through simple biochemistry.
There are numerous benefits to sole water including
•Helps hydration
•Helps the body detoxification
•Improves Sleep
•Boost energy
•Improves digestion
•Regulates Heart Rate
•Improves blood sugar
•Natural antihistamine histamine
•Helps with muscle cramps
•Weight loss
•Edema
•Bone health and more
While taking sole water as a homemade supplement is beneficial for most people, combining it with the appropriate homeopathic prescription and a personalized health plan will make it better suited to your individual needs.
Preparation:
Fill a jar with unrefined Celtic salt, pink Himalayan salt or Redmond salt to one-quarter or one-third of its height
Cover the salt with filtered water, or spring water.
Put the lid on the jar, preferably not a metal lid because metal will oxidise/rust if it gets in contact with the salty water.
Let the jar sit overnight. Visible salt indicates that the solution is fully saturated, in other words the water can’t hold any more dissolved salt and it’s ready to use.
Add more water/unrefined salt when the levels of each get low.
To take your daily Sole, add 1 tsp* of sole to a glass of water – first thing in the morning and drink – Silica and Vitamin C powder can be added too when they are included in the recommendations
If the taste is too salty for you at first, add a little fruit juice or kombucha to your water and start with ¼ tsp Sole, gradually increasing the amount as your taste buds adjust.
*For anyone with kidney failure, please discuss with your homeopath and use only ¼ tsp Sole. It may take longer to rebalance your electrolytes, however, your body is clever. If you are on dialysis, please discuss with your doctor before starting Sole.
Aim to have your Sole in water 20-30 minutes before a meal. This timing will help prepare the lining of your stomach for the arrival of food and the powerful digestive juices. It will also avoid diluting those digestive juices and may help to naturally reduce acid indigestion.
Some health providers online recommend taking Sole with your first morning glass of water, however you will need to eat breakfast soon after – if you feel faint, please tell your homeopath as you may need help with rebalancing your blood sugars.
